At Mango Villa, the staircase was conceived as an opportunity to respond to both material and visual context.

The stone walls reference the texture and materiality of Alibaug’s terrain. In contrast, the red metal staircase is introduced as a distinct layer—its colour drawn from the nearby railway line, a subtle cue echoed across the villa to form a cohesive visual language.

Greenery balances the composition, softening the contrast and helping the red sit naturally with its surroundings.

Positioned within the living room courtyard, the staircase is intended to evoke curiosity—drawing you in and prompting the question: 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝘁 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱?

Oriented toward the distant hills, it gradually reveals the landscape as one moves upward, making the view part of the experience.

The result is a staircase that extends beyond function—linking material, context, and movement.

We don’t typically take on renovation projects, but Acasa Villas presented a rare opportunity🧱🌴☀️

Surrounded by expansive paddy fields and lush greenery, the site offered a setting too compelling to overlook.

This context became the driving force behind our approach—reimagining the existing structure and interiors to open them up, allowing the landscape to take center stage.

The design palette is intentionally restrained, rooted in a spectrum of neutrals and enriched through layered textures.

A singular, minimal highlight colour is introduced with subtlety, ensuring that the architecture recedes and the surrounding nature is allowed to truly shine.

Badem — Isometric Green Interface.

This is where the project begins to operate as an experience rather than just a form.

The isometric reveals how user interface is carefully constructed through a series of landscaped pockets distributed across multiple levels.

These pockets are not decorative inserts but spatial thresholds — moments where circulation slows down, views open up, and interaction becomes intuitive.

As one moves along corridors, terraces, and stepped edges, the landscape weaves in and out, creating a layered interface between movement and pause.

Each level negotiates privacy and openness differently, using planting as a soft boundary that guides users without restricting them.

What emerges is a continuous, inhabitable edge — where architecture and landscape blur, and the building is navigated as a sequence of green interruptions rather than a rigid path.

Meet Rani🐶

The unofficial guardian of the Rainforest Villa site and everyone’s favourite stress-buster.

Rani first joined the contractors during a previous project, and when the team moved to the Rainforest Villa site, she came along too. Since then, she’s quietly become part of the site’s daily rhythm — wandering between conversations, supervising the work, and making sure no one stays serious for too long.

Between site walks, design discussions, and long construction days, Rani is always around — keeping watch, greeting everyone who arrives, and reminding us to pause for a moment.

Because before architecture becomes drawings and details, it begins here — on site, in conversation, in observation, and in the everyday moments that shape how a place eventually comes together.

Azul Vida sits on a charming corner plot, closely surrounded by neighboring buildings, with only small glimpses of open fields beyond 🌾

Rather than trying to open the home outward, we chose to turn inward—creating a quiet retreat within the constraints of the site.

The corner condition inspired movement in the architecture, where soft curved facades gently guide you around the edge of the plot. Integrated planters are woven into the facade, designed so that over time nature slowly grows over and becomes part of the architecture itself✨

Following the same philosophy, the master bathroom was designed to frame a carefully curated view while maintaining privacy through louvers.

The materials remain subtle and restrained, allowing the morning view to quietly take center stage.

On the ground floor, the guest bedroom was imagined as a cozy, cottage-like retreat that opens into a small garden.

Warm tones, stone flooring, and natural textures create a space that feels simple, grounding, and deeply connected to nature.

Located just above the living room, this rooftop deck was designed as the social extension of the villa, opening toward uninterrupted views of the surrounding paddy fields.

Layered planters and dense tropical greens frame the space to create privacy while keeping the landscape as the focal point. Deck flooring and an outdoor fire make the deck equally suited for quiet evenings, small gatherings, and outdoor dining.

A simple intervention that adds an elevated outdoor living space while staying connected to the landscape.

For this home, the stair was imagined as a sculptural object that echoed the softness of its architectural form: monolithic & calm.

The form takes shape as a continuous spiral, fabricated from 10 mm folded metal sheets, where structure and geometry are formed together.

What begins as raw steel is then wrapped entirely in timber, turning the staircase into a warm, tactile object that reads almost entirely as wood, concealing the strength within.

The spiral will eventually rise through a rounded lime-plastered stairwell and rest on micro-resin flooring (PS: the tiles here are merely laid as a base for the resin), allowing the form itself to take center stage.

Above, a skylight washes the stair with natural light, revealing its curves as you move through the space.

Our journeys into architecture started quite differently.

For Dinika, it began as a teenager watching her parent’s home being built- completely fascinated by the architect’s scale model & tiny details that brought the whole house to life. Creating things had always been her way of expressing herself- from crafts to baking to building things with whatever was around✨

For Adhi, the path came through art and experimentation- origami, tattoos, and making models for science fairs. When architecture came up as a career option, it felt like the perfect meeting point between creativity and the science of making things✨

Architecture school only deepened that curiosity. Certain experiences stayed with us- visiting Fallingwater by FL Wright, and walking through Geoffrey Bawa’s projects in Sri Lanka🇱🇰🌿

Those moments showed us how architecture could dissolve into nature, shape movement, and create spaces that feel alive.

Somewhere along the way, our conversations around design, nature, and spatial experience started aligning. That shared curiosity eventually became DADO.

At DADO, we see architecture as more than just buildings. It’s about designing spaces that shape lifestyles, slow people down, and allow them to reconnect with nature & their surroundings.
